Lechner sets third graduation date, launches 24-hour webcam
Dan Pettis

Senior Johnny Lechner despite a planned graduation following the spring 2007 semester is attending classes for his 14th year. He said he plans to graduate after the spring 2008 semester.

Lechner said he was inspired to return to UW-Whitewater to live the college life he enjoys so much for one more year just as he was about to graduate.

"Once I got ready to graduate I started to think about the fact that I wanted to stay another year, and it had nothing to do with any media attention or a Web site," Lechner said. "It was just following my heart, which has brought me back for one more year."

Lechner said he took all of the steps necessary to graduate but changed his mind when he realized he wanted to stay another year. However, on May 16, the Janesville Gazette reported him saying he did not complete the necessary paperwork because he was too busy partying.

The Registrar's office declined comment on the status of Lechner's graduation application for the 2007 school year.

Lechner said the student reaction he has heard from his decision to remain at UW-Whitewater has been mostly positive. He said he knows there are students who think he returned to school just for the fame, but he doesn't care what they think.

Sophomore Alan Grgic said he supported Lechner's decision to stay in school. Grgic said Lechner should keep going to school because he is benefiting from the extra time spent learning.

"As long as he's enjoying himself it's not a bad thing," Grgic said. "A lot of people think it's a little extreme and that he's just doing it for the attention, but I know that he still goes to classes. Once he does decide to end this he's going to come out having learned a lot."

During the summer Lechner acted in a movie. He appeared in a college comedy titled "Fraternity House," as a character named "Fossil."

The Internet Movie Database said the plot is "24 hours in the life of Iota Gamma Chi, the wildest fraternity on campus."

IMDB said the movie is currently in the post production phase. Lechner said it is set for release in August 2008.

Lechner's main project for this semester is a 24 hour live streaming webcam which can be viewed at www.johnnylechner.com. Lechner set up a camera by his computer and can respond and interact with viewers through a message board on the Web site.

To keep the cameras rolling 24 hours Lechner has a portable webcam which he plans to take out with him when he is not at home.

"What drew me into it is the artistic value of it," Lechner said. "Nobody has really ever done anything like this where they keep it running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, rain, sleet, snow; whatever's going on."

Lechner has said he was ready to graduate twice before but changed his mind both times. He decided to study abroad and pulled out of graduation days before the May 2006 ceremony.

This new technology is crazy. If I want to relive the party I was at last Friday, the club I was at Saturday, or even the car ride back from Minneapolis on Sunday…All I have to do is hit up the archives and highlights.

A new trend in Wedding photography is online viewing (and purchasing). Well, I just finished checking out some pics online from a recent wedding that I was at and…ummm…I guess I was dancing a lot that night. I blame the wine.

September 24th 2007

I had no idea what I was getting myself into with the 24/7 LIVE cam thing, but it’s been pretty surreal. I’ve tried to just go with the flow. Take your time and check out some of the features of the player such as the highlights and the archives. It’s crazy because you can pick any date and time and it will show you exactly what I was doing.
*Don’t forget, I just started last Friday.

Have you ever accidentally sat on an (up-seated) toilet without looking to see if the seat was down first? me either...
UNTIL LAST NIGHT. lol.
scary moment. I felt like Alice in Wonderland.

on the subject of graffiti parties (see previous blog)...
I was informed that a T-shirt that I signed at a graffiti party was sold on Ebay. If you are that desperate for Johnny Lechner merchandise, do not buy it off of Ebay! All you have to do is throw a party and I'll show up. Odds are that I'll forget something of mine there.

September 14th 2007

I had a great time at a graffiti party last night. It is kind of weird thinking that it may have been the last graffiti party of my college career. Then I realized that I still have 247 days left of college so it probably will not be the last one…

This past summer, I was offered one of the lead roles in a feature length motion picture called “FRATERNITY HOUSE”. I had a blast taking part in this project and I would definitely label this adventure as one of the higher points of the past few years. You can check out some of the pics on my MySpace page...

4,721st day of the college life

...there were beautiful women everywhere.
I actually invented a new game called “Lechner FRISBEER” (my mom thought of the name) Anyway, I think this game has some serious potential to catch the country by storm. The rules are simple. A team of two people, line up 5 cans of “whatever” in front of them and face the opposing team. You then take turns throwing 2 Frisbees at the opposing team's cans. If you hit an opposing team’s can, it must be slammed immediately. If both teammates have direct hits of opposing team cans, they get to throw the Frisbees again. Otherwise, it is now the enemy’s turn to hit your cans.

Play at your own
